One of the perks of being a contributor for Zomato, is getting to meet chefs like Darren Velvick. As soon as I walked in, Chef Darren Velvick was standing behind the counter of his beautiful open kitchen. He was extremely welcoming and down to earth, he started talking about how he revamped the entire restaurant from it’s previous setting. He seemed very involved and concerned about every detail at the Croft and that’s when I knew he is a great chef, I was hooked! He also talked about what it was like to work with Gordan Ramsay and Marcus Wareing and after having been mentored by Culinary legends, he still manages to be focused and grounded on the main aim of being head chef and I must say he is doing such a great job with the Croft.
The whole experience was something to remember. When I arrived at the Croft, the decor and concept was very apparent. The colour scheme, outdoor garden and open kitchen, all contributed to giving the Croft a comfortable and chilled out vibe. The first thing I noticed was the chalk- board walls, I thought the idea was super quirky, it gave the whole place a very modern look. The staff was also friendly and welcoming and I am sure that the Zomato foodies will agree when I say that the manager, Yani, made us feel at home.
THE FOOD – was unbelievable! We started with some of Chef Darren’s most popular appetizers. My favourites were the Devilled Chicken Skewers and the Crispy Mushroom, they were both cooked to perfection and just divine! We then had the opportunity to learn from Darren! He talked his way through while making Foie Gras & Truffle stuffed chicken with Pearl Barley Risotto, He went step by step, all the way from preparing the bird to cooking it and then preparing the risotto. This was the favourite part of my meal, the chicken and risotto was so moist and cooked perfectly, it would just melt in your mouth. At this point, there was pin drop silent on the dining table, everyone was appreciating such good food!
Naturally, our food journey would not just end there, dessert is never forgotten. We got to plate and try two of The Croft’s most popular deserts, the Neat & Tidy which was berry based with a cream-filled meringue; and the Peanut Choc-ice was ice-cream with grated peanuts and chocolate sauce. They were both to die for!
Personally, I thought that this was one of the best #ZomatoMeetup I’ve been to, the food, company and place all contributed to having an amazing Saturday afternoon. So, if you’re looking for a place to chill or even have a date night, The Croft is definitely the place to be! Trendy, comfortable and serves amazing food cooked by a great chef. – Don’t miss out!
